Greetings all;

I finally got around to rebooting to the

3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u2~bpo70+1
(2016-01-03) x86_64 GNU/Linux

kernel, and almost everything is working, even sim-axis lcnc!

However, late in the boot I heard a pretty strong thump in the speakers,
and I haven't any sound now, despite running my usual sound
restorer "alsactl restore", which if iceweasel is playing a news story,
reports an error:
gene@coyote:/etc/init.d$ alsactl restore
alsactl: set_control:1464: Cannot write control '2:0:0:Independent
HP:0' : Device or resource busy

But if I stop the story, returns with no error but still doesn't restore
the sound. Running alsamixergui shows its 100% shut down. Turned
everything back up including the beep (which is too much) makes it work
again, and I've now done a new alsactl store.

This lack of sound after a reboot has been a constant PITA for years.
Is there not something that can be done about that? Or is this more
properly a debian problem?

Thanks.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
