I don't have a clue what sbackup is. I have been using amanda since the late 90's, and it was a very simple matter of installing the amanda client packages from the repo's on those machines, and adding those machines to the disklist amanda is to backup. Once configured, it just works, every night now for about 13 years when I decided I should at least be backing up the LCNC stuff and my /home dirs on those machines. Amanda is different in that amanda is trying to be aware of the size of the media you use to store those backups on, so it plays mix and match with the order of the different backup levels being advanced from the schedule on a dynamic basis, intending to balance the size of the backup from run to run. I don't exceed about 13 Gb unless its time to do a level 0 on my movies directory, which is weddings I have shot, and currently is around 17Gb all by itself. On the night it does that, all others get a level 1, which is only what has changed since the last level 0 backup. Read the amanda docs, I think you will like what you read. See www.amanda.org.
