The i.mx6 can easily run Linuxcnc. The issues that you'll run into are the high cost of the i.mx6 boards and getting the GUI to run fast enough. Some i.mx6 quads are under $20ea, but the boards they end up on tend to be priced closer to $100. Well above the price of a new suitable x86 board. The i.mx6 has integrated Ethernet so hm2_eth just might work and it also has PCIe.
