Greetings all;

Since my toy lathe broke itself, again, and its made out of rubber
anyway, I was watching it fight with a dull chip that actually looked
good under a strong glass a couple days ago, and the major two sources
of flex that induce chip breaking chatter are the spindle itself, and
under pressure from the dull chip, I could see the cross-slide visibly
bowing in its length. This while taking .25mm off the diameter of that
piece of cast per pass at about a 20mm per minute feed.

So its a piece of crap in the first place.

Now, knowing that I'll cnc it, and it looks fairly easy, I am considering
driving up to Pittsburgh and getting a new PM-127VF-LB lathe, ebay link:

<http://www.ebay.com/itm/PM1127VF-LB-METAL-WORKING-LATHE-VARIABLE-SPEED-LARGE-BORE-QCTP-/231943772037?hash=item3600ed1785>

At that spindle bore, I'd not have any trouble mounting a rifle barrel,
which is a definite plus. The chuck mount is a minus though, almost
exactly like this toy, 3 studs in the chuck thru a flange on the end of
the spindle, so that will definitely need another deer hoist rigged.
Both chucks are 6", but the motor is a bit puny, running on a 15 amp
wall outlet.

And a dividing head for my mill at the same time as both are in stock and
I can put finger prints on them at the dealers location in Pittsburgh,
ebay link:

<http://www.ebay.com/itm/BS-0-Precision-Dividing-Head-With-5-3-jaw-Chuck-Tailstock-part-BS-0-new/311287173608?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36142%26meid%3D0fb601c6651b4939ab2189a87f8c75c7%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D181674670773>

But its $399 there, and the best I can find on ebay wants $40 shipping on
a $339.95 price. $20 diff. Shrug. I'll need to replace a missing pulley
in my deer hoist hanging over the mill now so I can hang the head if I
have to as it weighs 60 lbs and thats more than whats left of my back
can do.

This lathe is fairly new on the market I think, no ready made stand, and
a stand for it would have to be made, weighs about 600 lbs. That I can
handle with a neighbors engine crane I think. Put good castors on the
stand and I should be able to access all around it.

Comments please, either side of the argument.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
