Exactly,  You cannot put it at the same directory level as the inbox, 
kmail does it similarly.  You can put it IN the inbox, but not in 
parallel so its all in one grand foop of a list, but you can do it by 
hand and its zero problems.

the diff is that if I create it by hand, t-bird goes out of it mind and 
never seems to fully regain its sanity.  But I can do that to kmail, and 
it happily creates the index file for the new directory(s) without a 
burp in a 12 pack of new ones once its been restarted.
