It is nice to have also ability to change this max velocities and max accelerations in runtime especially if you are "self-building" machine. Than it is required to get max velocity and especcially acceleration to know when machine is within allowable shaking.
If you do this with alot of trial, change, reset linux-cnc, it is very time consuming. It seems that after you get this parameters right than it seems they will remain constant for long time.
