I'm running a different Linux distribution so I can't tell you exactly
where to make the change but generally these color selections are user
selectable as "Theams".    So you picks a team called "classic" or
"monochromes" or "fall colors" .   You can edit one files and make your own
but likely there is enough.

I think the reason some look poor is because the person who made the theme
had a color calibrated monitor and a much higher quality graphic card with
a good DAC.
