I'm looking at small Linux distros based on Debian Wheezy and Lubuntu Precise.
Lubuntu 12.04 has a non-PAE kernel available, but is there a non-PAE RTAI
kernel?
If not, then I guess that nixes putting LCNC on a WYSE Sx0 thin client, or most
any of the x86 thin clients from the 2010's and older.
I found that two of my S30's have more storage than they reported. Initially
the System control panel showed 32 meg. After resetting to factory settings
that went up to 64 meg. Then I looked up the Apacer flash disk part numbers,
they have 512 meg.
The newest does have 128 meg, but flashing the latest Win CE 6.0 on it cut that
to 64 meg.
If it's possible to install a compact version of Linux able to run LCNC, and
LCNC itself on one of these, then I'll get to see about settting it up to run
my PLM2000.
LCNC won't have to actually do any calculating or interpreting of GCODE. The
servo controller in the mill does that. Just need to feed it the code. Light
Machines didn't use anywhere near the full capability of the controller. It has
onboard memory to store GCODE and run headless, repeating over and over by
poking the start button.
I suppose to do some interpolations and other functions not built into the
Animatics controller, LCNC could do the calculations and translate that into
the more basic motion control commands to send to it. The trick being parsing a
GCODE file for which commands can be sent direct and which need interpreting.
Pre-process, save to a new file then feed that to it.
