One caveat Jon, be sure the cap you are about to probe has been 
discharged. This includes elderly caps that will often have a 
considerable amount of dielectric absorbsion, and will self recharge in 
a fraction of a second after the short has been removed.

One of the reasons I bought two as a peon to my fading short term 
memory. :)  I do not know the self-destruction voltage, but I have seen 
the warnings about it already. :)
