Kewl, like quite a few things you've re-"made". :) You are fond of camouflage, hiding the details. I guess I am not. Bits and pieces of the stuff that makes the magic work have a certain cachet to me, quiet bragging some would call it. Probably the oddest bit of "hide it" on the Sheldon is the pair of bellows that totally encase the cheap Z screw. No provision at the ends for rapid air exit or entry, instead the center bolt on each side of the nut flange is left out, and the hole in the nut anchor block is drilled thru, so air can get from one side of the nut to the other. The intention is to keep swarf out of it, same idea behind sealing up the area under the cross feed. That screw is bare. But I've managed to keep it clean, so far. Ignore the thumping sound, its just me knocking on wood. Its uncovered if the crossfeed is advanced to the centerline or beyond. I generally keep a heavy paper towel taped to the rear of the toolpost base to cover it in that case.
