So I can set these soft limits with some semblance of knowing what I'm 
doing. The figures I use should not be diddled by a touch-off, only by 
the final closure of the home switch of that axis. This then should 
become the reference from which the limit offsets put in the .ini file 
are derived.

IOW, if this internal var is set to 0.000000 by the final home switch 
closure, and unaffected by the saved position.txt, then that var's 
offset at the desired offset becomes what I put in the .ini file. ??

And what motion pin is this reported on?

When changing chucks, the Z safe changes, so ideally one should have 
an .ini for each chuck. But both x safe and z safe are rendered invalid 
when the toolpost is moved or rotated = waste of time even thinking 
about that.
