Greetings all; This 6040 gantry has some motors that are apparently semi optimized for this machine. They at first glance look smaller than a nema 23 but I believe they are. Y has the longest core iron at about 2.2", then X is about 1.9", but Z & A are no longer than 1.4" if that long.
They come with hand knobs about an inch in diameter on the rear, and powered up, I have to grab that knob with a pair of 10" channel-locks to make then slip a magnetic cog. I can't do it by hand. IOW they are exceptionally strong for their size. The reason I ask is that I am wondering where one might source a larger one of this same family of motor products. There is no markings on these motors at all unless on the face flange where it bolts to the machine. The reason is that x and y can, with my 2M542 drivers, running on 28 volts, can do G0 moves in the 225 ipm range w/o stalling, which usually occurs on the stop. Z, lifting the spindle motor can just barely get to half that before it stalls. That might be fixable with a copy of the longer Y motor installed on the Z drive. If I knew where to get one. The thought also occurs that the stronger one on the belt drive rotary might stiffen it up too. So far, this vfd is winning, the best I can do is to set its speed, start and stop it from lcnc using the interface in the 7i76. Although the terminal connector for remote control on its pcb has plainly labeled FWD and REV terminals, the state of those is ignored. And I can't start it after a powerup, until the run button has been pushed. Fortunately, the display also flashes until that been done so theres an attention getter to remind me. But once thats done I have working rpm in about 1 second after an Snnnn M3 is found in the gcode, and a full 24k in about 3 secs. It could probably do that in 1 second, but its a 15 amp 126 volt circuit feeding it. So its usable. For long enough to use up the poor bearings in this one. Checking on the misters and switches etc for homing status, I'm sitting on my hands for another week yet. So I re-arranged the deck chairs to make the spindle display visible and reachable from the operators position yesterday. Keeps me out of the bars dont'cha know. ;-) Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
