You should be able to set encoder scale at 400 w/o effecting the quadrature direction sensing. But I've no experience with how CUI does it. All the encoders I have built fed either software or mesa in quadrature modes. ABX outputs IOW. I've only one commercially made one, an omron 1000 line but it's not on the spindle, it's on the motor but the index still comes from the spindle. So the scale changes with the backgear.
