There is a Wiki page on using the IDE:
http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Editing_MESA_Bitfiles
(or http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Editing_MESA_Bitfiles_Spartan2 )

I don't know of any plans to update the github, but that just means
that it isn't on my personal mental list. It is possible that someone
else intends to do it.
LinuxCNC has no central control or info on who is doing what or when.
I don't even know who set up the HM2 github build system.
