Greg,
I'm running a Sabrent Rocket 1tb gen 4 on my Ryzen 3900. The only thing that
takes time is for the motherboard to post.I think that could be a little
overkill for Linux, but it could be fun.
I think the next Linux system should be something like a Ryzen 4400G and NVME
drive, for size and low power. Although I can't afford the divorce at my age.

If you want fast try a M.2 Ultra PCIe 3.0 x4 NVME drive. The size of an
oversized stick of gum, holds a terabyte of data. I built my new PC with one of
those from Crucial, their P2 version because it was on sale for less than the
slightly slower P3 version. Where a SATA 3 connected SDD can reach towards 600
megabytes per second, the NVME SDD directly connected to the PCI Express 3.0
bus can get up around 2300 megabytes per second, tested with ATTO's benchmark.
Newegg has the 500 gig version CT500P2SSD8 right now for $60.99. Of course to
take advantage of all that speed you need a motherboard with PCI Express 3.0 or
newer and an M.2 slot connected to it or a PCIe x4 to M.2 Ultra adapter card
and an x4 slot.

  Andy,
I have sound now. I changed the HDMI cable, upgraded to a 500g SSD and a fresh
install, now all I need to do is rebuild everything now.Wow, I didn't realize
how much faster everything installs with the SSD. At least I have something to
do this weekend.

Thanks for the reply,Scott

I can't guarantee that sound works on any of my test machines. Did it
work before?

What platform is this?
