What's really odd is at the moment this same axis that used to be incredibly reliable at 150 ipm with jogging now also has started to fault at over 100 ipm until it has run at 40 to 60 a few times. Likely tightening the gib up a tad hasn't exactly helped that either.
The motor is supposed to be 1.2 Nm at 3000 RPM and I'm running 4:1. https://www.automationtechnologiesinc.com/products-page/dc-servo-motor/nema34-1125ozin-dual-shaft-servo-motor However, it runs hotter than the other one and the resistance in the windings is different. One of the two is the correct size motor. The other one isn't. I put what I thought was the correct one to move the heavier X and Y and rotary table. And it has 4:1 while the X has 3:1. No troubles with the X. Running back and forth 6.5" with G-code and the backlash compensation matches my Shumatech DRO. Once it no longer faults. The reality is I should just replace the ACME with ball screws and be done with that issue as outlined in this description of updating this type of mill. https://www.cnczone.com/forums/vertical-mill-lathe-project-log/25895-cnc-forum-posts.html John > -----Original Message----- > From: andy pugh [mailto:bodge...@gmail.com] > Sent: June-03-21 10:42 AM > To: Enhanced Machine Controller (EMC) > Subject: Re: [Emc-users] Servo Motor Tuning. > > On Thu, 3 Jun 2021 at 04:46, John Dammeyer <jo...@autoartisans.com> wrote: > > > > I'm of the opinion that under load in one direction but not the other the > > 0.0137" backlash is impacting the motion. > > Backlash will certainly make thingsw difficult, as in effect you are > trying to tune two systems with one PID.
