Not since 2.8.  In previous versions you would have to create dummy axis as 
place holders.  They didn't have to have anything assigned to them or show up 
on the GUI, but their place holders needed to appear in the ini file.  But with 
the the merger of JA none of that is necessary.  (However I don't think you can 
skip joint numbers.)

Is there some reason I can't skip an axis? I want to turn an XYZA machine into 
an XYZB machine by moving the rotary to turn the Y axis.
I am going to turn it back into an XYZA just to see if that works.
