I figured it was too good to last. I updated from master and rebooted it,
screen, crosshairs ok, but no camera. There was a very faint white on white
error msg, very hard to read but something about video0 behind the crosshairs.
So I unplugged the camera and plugged it back in to an adjacent usb port, then
consulted dmesg:

And now there is no /dev/video0
So I rebooted it again, getting a /dev/video0 this time.
Now the 3rd tab on the preview window is empty white. no crosshairs,
no target circle, it is all gone again.
And something has happened to my posts to the list, the last msg that
actually came back from either of the the lists was at 18:37 local time.
But sourceforge claims I am already subscribed to both lists when I
attempt a re-subscribe.
This msg is cc'd to the user list, did you get 2 copies? The first
attempt to re-edit and re-send this was clipped off in the middle of
the sourceforge word above.
