Subject: [Emc-users] Mesa sserial daughtercard for encoder inputs?
Hello!
I have to decide on yet another Biesse retrofit and for that I am
trying to understand what i/o boards I would use.
There definitely will be required at least 4x remote sserial boards
for inputs and outputs on moving stage of machine and inside main
frame assembly (separate from control cabinet).
From my previous experience of setting up wiring etc I think that
7i94T board would be very convenient since servo drives need 0-10V
analog signal and there is 7i83 for that. Only missing piece in my
puzzle is sserial board for 4x encoder input.
I know that theoretically I could use 7i77 board on db-25 expansion
connector of 7i94T. But the thing is that I would like to use
inexpensive boards so that their replacement is not that "painful".
For a little context - I have several 7i48 and 7i33 boards that have
either dead encoder input or several dead analog output channels (and
are unusable at the moment as I need 4x encoder inputs and 4x analog
outputs and I already need to replace yet another 7i32 in a current
retrofit I am working on - I have checked encoder inputs with
oscilloscope, voltage level is 3V, I have no idea what caused encoder
inputs to stop working and even more I do not understand why would
analog outputs stop working when I replace the board and it happily
works afterwards (like it was with the laser rebuild project I wrote
some time ago and that has now been delivered to customer). Long story
short - I have tried to understand the cause, could not find, so I am
adjusting to face the consequences of need for replacement of some
boards.
So I would like to find out what options I have for at least 4x
encoder inputs for 7i94T board.

Dead encoder inputs or OP-AMP outputs are typically caused by accidental
connection to a voltage outside their safe range or large EMI spikes.
If you just need 4 encoder inputs and up to 5 sserial I/O,
a 7I92TM+7I85 would do.
If you want more sserial channels, a 7I94T+7I85 would do.
(13 sserial channels and 4 encoders)
If 4 encoder channels was marginal, a 7I94T+7I89 would give you
8 encoder channels and 9 sserial channels
