ran

cd linuxcnc-source-dev
./debian/configure
sudo apt-get build-deb .

stustev@attlocal:~/linuxcnc-source-dir$ sudo apt update
[sudo] password for stustev:

Hit:2 http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/science:/EtherLab/Debian_12
./ InRelease
Hit:4 https://www.linuxcnc.org trixie InRelease

Hit:3 https://repository.qtpyvcp.com/apt develop InRelease
All packages are up to date.
stustev@attlocal:~/linuxcnc-source-dir$ sudo apt install libudev-dev
libudev-dev is already the newest version (257.9-1~deb13u1).
Summary:
  Upgrading: 0, Installing: 0, Removing: 0, Not Upgrading: 0
stustev@attlocal:~/linuxcnc-source-dev

no joy - configure gives the same result - udev not found

As an afterthought I ran

sudo apt upgrade

To see if that included anything more. Still no joy.

libudev.pc existed in */usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/ *prior to
today's exercise

many thanks
Stuart
