Yes, damned if you write docs and damned if you don't write docs...

However, we have been discussing this "upgrade surprise" a bit.
The conclusion of those discussions have been: There are no guarantees given that you can just hop over to a new major version or go back and forth easily. Anybody who thinks that is mistaken and will be surprised. Especially with what is still coming. In that light, mesa_modbus vs. hm2_modus is a minor issue.

Sure, we can ease the pain a bit with docs and tools. But there is only so much any can do. The master branch (2.10-pre) is the rolling development branch at the head and breaking things for users, although not always nice, is a part of that development when necessary. If you want stability, then you should remain with the stable branch.

I would therefore like those users to find out as quickly and as easily as
possible that mesa_modbus has been replaced by hm2_modbus.
That's all. I don't want to make a big issue out of it.

Hence the message on the mailing list ;-)

We are volunteers, and we don't have the resources to build sophisticated
tools for automatic migration. Good documentation and a clear migration path
are probably the simplest and most practical solution.
Indeed... Any patches are gladly welcomed. Doc updates are always nice.
