I'm going to reiterate this.  FreeCAD is different than it use to be.  What was
the last version you used? I personally find Fusion harder to use now.
But, That's because I'm use to FreeCAD's work flow. It's going to be the same
coming from Fusion to FreeCAD.

And no, you don't have to be a dedicated open source idealist to use FreeCAD.  I use it because to run Fusion, I have to run Windows or use a VM, and it sucks under a VM, and I personally
detest windows above Windows 7. (And even then preferred Linux)

Thanks, BIlly

I could work on FreeCad now as long as I kept away from the CAM side. TBH
though every time I have tried FreeCad I've ended up wanting to tear my hair
out (what little I have left). That doesn't really give me a big incentive to
work on it. Although I'm not keen on Autodesk's policies I mostly end up
modelling in Fusion. The free personal use CAD is fine for anything I want to
do. The CAM however is crippled to the point of being useless.
This is pretty much it. You have to be dedicated open source idealist to use
FreeCAD over Fusion360. FreeCAD can work, but it just takes 3X more mouse
clicks for any given task.

But you can also use both, the files move usig .STEP format.
