I've gone ahead and pushed some changes that fix these issues, but
brings up other issues.

Not all backends know what to do with an https url. For example, now
that connecting to libre.fm works again via https you can't use mplayer
as a backend anymore for streaming libre.fm. vlc, on the other hand,
will work fine.

Since this touched all of the player backends, we need to be on the
lookout for breakeage, borkage and nonworkitude.
