Chiming in (like Jaimes) for the first time. What a great dialogue already
- I've found myself using they/them in bio statements and am trying to
understand the meaning of that shift, in a number of senses. McKenzie, I've
seen you post about the techno/rave dysphoria angle in recent days, and
have been thinking about it a good deal. You're on point wrt identifying
techno as a site of resistance and existence -- as you noted too,
specifically and historically, Black resistance and existence... and there
is certainly a long history of music theorists, musicologists, critics,
whoever, that have framed raving as euphoria... but there is something
newly vital in that wiggly air re: techno as gender euphoria... and, in
tandem, the regaining control of a runaway EDM ship that prioritized the
corporate festival circuit/economy, cishets, and money over community,
spectacularity over accountability, etc. looking fwd to more of this
thread...
