Oh, and also, in current incoming branch (not yet in master), there's a new set of functions that allow marshalling strings in UTF8/UTF16 (tight packed)/UTF32 forms from C side to JS side, see stringToUTF8/16/32 and UTF8/16/32ToString functions in https://github.com/kripken/emscripten/blob/master/src/preamble.js#L696
