ENB Coverage of the IGM on Great Apes and GRASP Council Meeting

The Intergovernmental Meeting on Great Apes and first Council Meeting for the Great Apes Survival Project (GRASP) will be held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, from 5-9 September 2005. Participants in the meeting will seek to provide a response to the serious situation of great apes species, all of which are at high risk of extinction, and to establish a systematic international approach that would enable or improve their conservation. GRASP’s immediate challenge is to lift the threat of extinction facing most populations of great apes, namely gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos (pygmy chimpanzees) and orangutans.
