Dear Encfs list,

I have a problem with mutt, and I'm not sure whether it's
ENCFS-related, since both mutt's temporary directory and the maildir
directory are ENCFS-encrypted. I know that there's a warning that
paranoia mode will not work with mutt, but I thought I had not chosen
this mode at setup, though I'm not sure anymore.

More specifics about my setup:

~/.stuff is ENCFS-encrypted and decrypted to ~/stuff when this happens:

encfsctl ~/.stuff

Version 6 configuration; created by EncFS 1.4.2 (revision 20080813)
Filesystem cipher: "ssl/aes", version 2:1:0 (using 2:1:1)
Filename encoding: "nameio/block", version 3:0:0 (using 3:0:1)
Key Size: 192 bits
Block Size: 1024 bytes
Each file contains 8 byte header with unique IV data.
Filenames encoded using IV chaining mode.

the directory ~/.mutt is a symlink:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mpromber mpromber 26 2009-06-16 12:40 .mutt ->
/home/mpromber/stuff/.mutt

so is the directory ~/maildir, which contains my maildirs:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 mpromber mpromber 13 2009-03-25 20:21 maildir -> stuff/maildir

Mutt sends messages just fine, and to do so, it creates files in
~/.mutt/tmp. But when I try to edit a message (hitting "e" in the
index), I get:

"could not create temporary folder: No such file or directory"

However, mutt also creates a file of size zero in ~/.mutt/tmp, so it
seems to be able to write to that folder just fine:

-rw------- 1 mpromber mpromber   0 2009-06-16 13:10  mutt-lauren-1000-22110-0

Any ideas very welcome!

Marianne
