I would prefer to move the .encfs6.xml file somewhere else completely
separate to the actual encrypted data. That is I would like to be able
to specify both the configuration file (from say a USB) and a typed in
password, to decrypt a EncFS file system.

In a previous release you could use an environment variable
"ENCFS5_CONFIG" to specify the location of the configuration file to
use. But the man pages makes no mention of such a environment variable
in the new version. Nor does their appear to be a option to specify it.

So other than making a temporary symbolic link to its real location
while it is being used, is their any of specifying the location of the
config file to use?

If a symbolic link is needed, is it only needed during the mount
process, or does it have to be permanentally available? That is can
I unplug my USB after the file system has been mounted?
