One the assumption that you know the passphrase.... I had a quick look at the SVN repo and it appears that this comment is in the initial import (done on Jan 07, 2008), so you would have to look older than that. My suggestion would be to use an old liveCD and see if encfs is available on it. For Debian/Ubuntu CD's you can install '.debs' into a liveCD in the normal way. Or you could try the disk in a Windows machine and use the Win32 app to see if that can cope. The server appears to have fallen off the net but is in the 'way-back machine'. http://web.archive.org/web/20060318070457/http://www.crc32.net/encfs/ (a quick peek and the win32 source doesn't have this comment).
