Also, what really helps is to set up a dynamic dns account. Then, you can just use yourn...@dyndns.org, for instance. You'll still need port forwarding, but it saves you the trouble of always copying your ip address. You need to use an IP that belongs to the machine that the server is running on, and if you want your server to be available through your router you'd need to set up port forwarding on the router.
