Hi Mariappan,
What you inquired about, is a quote by Benjamin Franklin :
'Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that? Nobody.'
- Benjamin Franklin
[US author, diplomat, inventor, physicist, politician, & printer (1706
- 1790)]
Here, 'that' has been used in the same way as 'who'.
So, the text can be rewritten as :
Question : Who is rich?
Answer : He, who is content.
Question : Who is 'he'?
Answer :Nobody.
Similarly, the second sentence is a saying or proverb :
"They that touch pitch will be defiled."
OR
"You cannot touch pitch and not be defiled."
The sentence can be again rewritten as :
"They, who touches pitch, would be defiled."
Which means :
*There is Danger every Way in Ill company,
*OR*
We are influenced by our immediate surroundings and the company we keep.
*OR*
A person would gain the habits if he is with bad guys, and vice versa.*
thanks and regards
anu
