Hi everyone...

I found some idiomatic expressions that I would like to share with
you:

backing and filling (American)
continuously changing or delaying a decision. Example:
After much backing and filling she finally agreed to hand over the
company's books.

take to one's heels
Fig. to run away. Example:
The little boy said hello and then took to his heels. The man took to
his heels to try to get to the bus stop before the bus left.

knock spots off somebody/something (British & Australian informal)
to be very much better than someone or something else. Example:
There's a vegetarian restaurant in Brighton that knocks spots off any
round here.

get/let somebody off the hook
to allow someone to escape from a difficult situation or to avoid
doing something that they do not want to do. Example:
John's agreed to go to the meeting in my place, so that lets me off
the hook.

be running on empty (informal)
1. to continue to work and be active when you have no energy left.
Example:
I get the impression he's been running on empty for months now. A
holiday will do him good.

Regards

Lil
