I also think having a search and replace that is not a popup is much better, like it is implemented in EditPad Lite (fine editor but limited in possibilities). There you get a small toolbar dialog under your page which stays there so you can switch tabs while still having you search dialog open and apply the same replace on another tab. -- PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
