Please anybody let me know what are the benefits of being a member of WhatsApp groups for English teachers. I have several such groups three for English, two for maths, three for Science.. can't imagine how many groups I have been included in without having made any direct request for adding me to the group during the last two years or so! But one good work that I have done so far was that I didn't leave any group for courtesy as the admin would feel bad about my being exit. Recently many of the so formed groups (with high initial euphoria) have fallen inactive for no clear reason. Many groups now resort to the activities such as wishing good morning and good night, thanking those who write or forward some second hand funny messages, congratulating a member when he does a small recognizable good work, and sending condolences like RIP messages to the departed souls: never speak about any topic of the school school subject unless otherwise prompted! I too had a craze for WhatsApp WhatsApp groups for the last two years and nodded yes and replied most of the messages coming to the groups, without even taking care of my own health, staying up late night. I lost my personal Social contacts because of group activities as I took lions share in anything. As I too got tired of one way messaging in groups, it was natural for me to sit quiet for taking rest as a member in order to teach other inactive members a good lesson. What I had expected of each individual member of the group did not materialized or realized even after working for about one and a half years. What I really felt sorry for is the inability of teachers to write more, discuss substantially and have a regular contribution to the group. WhatsApp group or any of that kind is meant only for those who can think and ink and not for those expect messages to get in the box. Thank you for reading, and yet I haven't advised one not to join any group or exit that of a particular cause. But I think those who have abilities to write can contribute to a lager forum like this which includes thousands of remote members across the state than compressing or confining oneself in to the smaller group what you call Social groups.
