Hi all. As for symbols, I also prefer heart or plus. The ankh is not appropriate (it's not "invincibility"!) and hard to understand (much more cultural than the heart symbol). The smiley is completely ambiguous.
I'm not yet convinced of the yellow thing. It too much reminds me of chat/IM smileys. So I'm not entirely happy with any of them: - they stand out too much; most items "blend" into the landshape, they look like something on a different layer. - the yellow is too strong - the yellow _marble_ looks like something you can bump into and push away (i.e. other actor) - the heart symbol is more of a "love" symbol, the "plus" is to generic. What I'd suggest: - use a heart symbol with "+1" printed on it. That somewhat suggests that it is something you collect but might lose. - make it look more like something lying on the floor.
