Launch Terminal, type: which gpg
and hit return.
The resulting answer should give you the path to Gnupg.
Then you could copy/paste the answer to your Thunderbird OpenPGP
preferences.

Probably because you have not yet set the path to gnupg executable in
Thunderbird's OpenPGP preferences.

It is also possible that you have not installed gnupg in your computer.

As far as I remember, there's a specific version of gnupg for MacOS 10.6.8
