I have received a mail for which enigmail says:

BAD signature from XXX

How can I find out why the signature is bad? (I don't want to post
the mail on the mailing list.)

There are many many reasons. The most probable is that one of the
involved mailservers (MTAs) did mangle the message during transport.
Others may be broken or misconfigured client applications (MUAs),
which cause mangling of the message either at sending or later.

For more help you should provide more details without disclosing the
message contents:

- - Sending and receiving mail applications
- - Inline-PGP oder PGP/MIME format
- - plaintext or HTML

Sending and receiving mail applications:
Thunderbird 24.6.0 on both sides
Sender uses Enigmail 1.5.2, I use 1.7

Inline-PGP oder PGP/MIME format:
Inline

plaintext or HTML:
plaintext

The mail only went over one server which is our mail server at work.
I have received many mails over this server which had good signatures and I also received a signed mail from the very same person some minutes later than the broken one, with a good signature.
