-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: RIPEMD160 Hi Bill,

I use both S/MIME and OpenPGP for the same account/identity - but avoid using them at the same time (mis them for one message). You must just understand that "Options-Encryption" is an S/MIME setting and "Engimail-Message will (not) be encrypted" is an OpenPGP setting. Personally I prefer to use the buttonbar buttons anyway - I placed them next to each other and select from them what I want to. > You were correct, I did not have X.509 certificates for my recipients and > Thunderbird did not like that. Sure, that's how public-key-cryptography works. Nothing Enigmail or Thunderbird could do about it. > It is so nice to see Enigmail working as it should. Glad it works now and you found out the culprit. > When I put the S/MIME certificate back in I can "force" the encryption. Can you please tra to describe the exact conditions/settings and steps you took/which menu entries you select/which dialogs that appear to reproduce? > Doing it that way did cause the server to time out twice before the message > was sent, but otherwise there were no error messages. That has nothing to do with encryption, mus be coincidence.
