Besides displaying you can also configure Thunderbird to send the
OpenPGP header in every e-mail by adding two prefs for each identity:
user_pref("mail.identity.idN.headers", "openpgp");
user_pref("mail.identity.idN.header.openpgp", "OpenPGP: DEADBEEF");
