-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi Enrico,
> enigmail recommends upgrade to latest GnuPG 2.0.x yes. Maybe we should have waited for major Linux distributions to do that upgrade themselves but we don't know when this will happen - and since gpg-agent has significant advantages over handling passphrases in Engimail, we desided that it's time: GnuPG 2.0 is around and stable for a long time: https://www.enigmail.net/support/transition_to_gnupg2.php > With an ubuntu OS and using KGpg as encrypting software how to i do that? > Can i do it directly from Thunderbird and Enigmail? No. The component that does the actual crypto is neither Engimail nor KGpg. It's GnuPG. The ubuntu package names are gnupg (1.4) and gnupg2 (2.0): http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=gnupg So theoretically you just need to install gnupg2 through Softwaremanager (or using apt-get install or aptitude or ...). The hassle will be that your desktop environment will probably use another "agent" to cache passphrases (or more general "secrets") already. Patrick compiled a document to help you to find out what you have an what you might want to change in your software configuration: https://www.enigmail.net/support/gnupg2_issues.php > I know it sounds like a silly question but it's a while that i dont > upgrade and i have no idea how to do it manually The team cannot provide OS support ... but you may get community answers ;-) Ian recommended to set a specific path in enigmail Basic preferences. In most cases, this is NOT necessary since Enigmail detects GnuPG binaries. If it finds 1.4 AND 2.0, Enigmail prefers 2.0, so having both installed should not be an issue. Personally, I uninstall everything I don't need, but this might be a dependency issue (other packackes expect GnuPG 1.4 to be there). Well, here's my criticism to package maintainers: while it's OK to depend on GnuPG, you should depend on 1.4 OR 2.0, not 1.4. Apart from Enigmail: you (or distruzione.org) use DKIM - but the message received through the mailing list yields an invalid mailtext checksum.
