Hello,

I'm using the Enigmail extension for Mozilla Thunderbird (Icedove) on
Debian GNU/Linux, successfully until yesterday.
Since then, I cannot encrypt or sign any emails I'm sending - instead I
get an error message [1] every time I try to do so, and sending the
email fails. (I can send unencrypted emails, but both sending a
non-encrypted, signed message or sending an encrypted and signed message
fail with the error above.) Note that I can decrypt email sent to me,
although there is no notice shown confirming the validity of the signature.

I suspect that this is due to upgrading Enigmail, since when starting
Icedove that morning, I also saw a screen telling me that the default
encryption method had been changed to PGP/MIME from Inline-PGP - this is
in line with the release date for 1.9.0 and its release notes.

I have rebooted my computer and also tried reinstalling Enigmail, both
did not fix the problem. The FAQs aren't helping me here, I don't see an
entry in the support forum for this either. And to me (not knowing the
source code), the debugging logs also don't contain any hint what is
going wrong - so I'm pretty much out of ideas on what is going wrong
here. Any help "fixing Enigmail again" would be appreciated.
Let me know if I can help narrowing down the problem, by performing some
tests locally.

Best,
Mike

[1] The precise error message is (in German)
"In der Kommunikation zwischen GnuPG und gpg-agent (einem Teil von
GnuPG) ist ein Fehler aufgetreten.

Dies ist ein Problem mit der Systeminstallation oder ein
Konfigurationsfehler und führt dazu, dass Enigmail nicht funktioniert.
Das Problem kann nicht automatisch behoben werden.

Bitte sehen Sie auf der Support-Webseite https://enigmail.net/faq (auf
Englisch) nach, welche Möglichkeiten Sie haben."

Digging a bit in the source code, this the German-localized text of a
|gpgAgentError|, which is thrown in |errorHandling.jsm|, line 116. Now
if anybody can tell me why that's happenning and how to fix it...
