Well *that* was really weird. When I sent that reply, Enigmail asked for my passphrase, I typed in the passphrase, successfully sent the message ... and then Thunderbird stopped responding to the Del key. I could do everything BUT delete messages. Couldn't clear it except by restarting Thunderbird.
