The problem is that there is no output on stderr, even though --status-fd 2 is specified. I added --no-verbose because "verbose" options in gpg.conf make gpg ignore --status-fd 2. Apparently there is something more in your gpg.conf file with the same result. Can you check what other options you have in gpg.conf? -Patrick
