First, thank you for Enigmail, it is a tremendously useful tool that I
use on a daily basis.
# Problem migrating from 1.8.2 to 1.9.6
I have been using an older version of Enigmail until today (1.8.2) and
ran into problems when updating to 1.9.6.
Every time I would open a encrypted mail, a dialog box would pop up
telling that there was a problem communicating with the gpg-agent, the
mail would eventually be decrypted after several dialog box of the same
kind. Sending (encrypting and/or signing) mail would fail.
None of the advices provided on the FAQ worked (Debian 8.6 [x86 64],
Icedove 45.4.0, gpg 2.0.26 properly configured).
# Solution
While inspecting the log, I found:
gpg: WARNING: The GNOME keyring manager hijacked the GnuPG agent.
That is a behavior I was aware about and (naively enough) didn't think
could interfere with Enigmail. I was wrong.
gpg-agent functionalities of Gnome Keyring can be disabled, doing so
fixes the issue.
dpkg-divert --local --rename --divert
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop-disable --add
/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop

The FAQ should be updated to include these info.
# Precision needed in the FAQ
Under the "Troubleshooting > Analyze" section, the following
instruction:
go to menu Enigmail > Debugging Options > View Log.
... should be preceded by information about how to turn on "Expert
settings and menu".
# Comments about the website
The current font color makes the text particularly hard to read. Forget
the hype or whatever lead to using #aaa and #555 (a little bit better)
and use plain old #000.
