you and your correspondents can use the Keyserver.

For example, you may download my Public Key by just asking for
[email protected]

you will receive the key in an UNTRUSTED condition. This means: you
really don't know who I am. On receiving a message from me the
message will be marked UNTRUSTED / Good Signature.

to move the key into a trusted condition you would need to (a) sign the
key, and (b) set the trust level. You wouldn't do this for me: you
don't know who I am. But for your important contacts you would want to
do this.

to set the trust level authenticate their keys by checking the
"fingerprint" or Key ID.

the Key ID for my key is : 0x4DEA0DAD

make sure this is the key that you receive ( you can ask for the key
using the above Key ID )

once you have it you may send me a test message. if you do the subject
line should be

MINT Forum GPG Test

you would verify your correspondents key IDs by telephone or private
meeting.

understanding key management is the hard part of GPG/PGP. many of us
who advocate digital privacy see this as the price of privacy and a key
part of security -- a small price to pay
