There were some stale configuration items in my gpg.conf which were
throwing errors. Once I corrected that, the display problem I described
in this thread with in-line messages stopped happening.
One of the errors was, "gpg: keyserver option 'verbose' is unknown" and
the other was related to a missing keyring (I separate my keys into
multiple different rings by category).
I'm pretty sure that I've had errors in my conf file before that didn't
create this issue. It seems like this is something that enigmail should
handle more gracefully, and I think it used to do so in the past,
although I couldn't nail down a date/version. OTOH at least I have a
consistent way to reproduce the error, so hopefully that will make it
easier to track down.
Which GnuPG version are you running? Which were the offending commands
in gpg.conf? If possible, we'd like to reproduce the problem, this
usually helps speeding up debugging and fixing!
Both 2.1.11 and 2.0.30. The errors are described above.
