Enigmail is so slow to check signatures, that it makes large attachments practically impossible to re-check with Thunderbird on low-end PC. I suspect the hashing-algorithm is too slow, it may be due to double-hashing. Evolution for example is configurable in this respect, i.e. which SHA-variant one wants to use, Enigmail is not. SHA256 should be sufficient in any case.
