Neither of the above ;-)

You can search/filter all subjects that were locally decrypted & viewed
(because that updates the Message Header Database of Thunderbird). That
is, once you decrypt and read an email, the message subject in the list
of mails gets updated. From this point onwards, you can search and
filter for the subject.

Note that I'm talking about searching via menu Edit > Search or
filtering via the "Filter" bar. I'm not talking about searching via the
Search bar of the reader window. The latter searches indexed messages
and does AFAIK not cover the subject, nor encrypted messages at all.
