Yup, that’s always the problem, thanks.

There are numerous minor annoyances like this due to MacPorts adjusting the 
PATH only in the user's profile, presumably instead of /etc/paths.d.  I know 
MacPorts separates itself from MacOS libraries as much as possible, but maybe 
this occurs simply so that /opt/local/bin appears before the entries of 
/etc/paths, but not when running macOS applications, including Thunderbird.
