but to answer my own question from below (about what eprog does that
ecore_evas won't): eprog shapes a window to the contents of the evas.
that's about it though.

nope. not any more... i took out ebits handling when i rewrote it (for
evas2). Mostly, I wanted to drop a dependency, and figured that it wouldn't
be hard for people to add an ebit and set up a resize handler to keep it the
size of the bg (which is basically what eprog used to do). Also, this way it
doesn't require people to use ebits for the backround/layout of the program.
So, all eprog does now is create a window, create an evas, tell the evas to
draw on the window, keep the evas the size of the window, and pass events
from the window to the evas (and one can set a resize handler to do something
whenever the window is resized).
Anything there that ecore-evas isn't going to do?
